A 76-year-old Connecticut woman, Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi, was found dead at her home shortly before she was to be sentenced for killing her husband, Dr. Pierluigi Bigazzi, and hiding his body for months while continuing to collect his paychecks. State police are investigating her death, and the cause is unknown at this time. She was set to be sentenced to 13 years in prison as part of a plea deal for her husband’s death. Kosuda-Bigazzi’s lawyer expressed shock at her unexpected death, describing her as an independent woman who was in control of her own destiny.
According to police reports, Kosuda-Bigazzi claimed that she and her husband got into a fight over repairs needed to their home’s deck, which led to a struggle in which she ended up hitting him with a hammer. Her husband’s body was found in the basement in a state of advanced decomposition, with the cause of death determined to be blunt trauma to the head. Investigators believe that Pierluigi Bigazzi died in July 2017 and that his paychecks continued to be deposited into their joint checking account until his body was discovered during a wellness check requested by UConn Health staff. An internal investigation at UConn led to disciplinary action against a medical official who was supposed to monitor Pierluigi Bigazzi’s work but had not been in contact with him prior to his death.
