Whirlpool Foundation recently funded Camp Infinity, a Michigan Council of Women in Technology camp, aimed at inspiring young girls in 5th through 8th grade to pursue careers in technology. The week-long day camp provided hands-on learning opportunities for girls to explore computer and internet careers and different technologies.
Girls in 5th and 6th grade learned how to code using Scratch and worked with the Dash Flow bot, while girls in 7th and 8th grade focused on developing their own mobile apps. Speakers from Whirlpool shared their career experiences in technology, giving the girls valuable insights into the industry.
Tammy Doroshewitz of the Michigan Council of Women and Technology Foundation expressed the importance of exposing girls to technology careers at a young age. The camp also included a visit to an e-sports lab to introduce the girls to different types of technology.
Camp Infinity aims to inspire and empower young girls to pursue careers in technology, a field where women are traditionally underrepresented. By providing hands-on learning experiences and connecting them with industry professionals, the camp is helping to bridge the gender gap in the tech industry and encourage more girls to consider technology as a viable career path.
