The UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame welcomed its 2024 class in a ceremony celebrating the achievements of athletes, coaches, and contributors who left a lasting impact on the university. The nine-member class includes football player Hunkie Cooper, men’s golf coach Dwaine Knight, baseball player Kevin Lofthus, softball and basketball player Christine Parris, and the 1991 UNLV Softball Team, among others.
Hunkie Cooper, a versatile player, excelled at multiple positions in football and went on to have a successful career in the Arena Football League. Dwaine Knight, the men’s golf coach for 34 years, produced 48 All-Americans and led the Rebels to an NCAA championship in 1998. Kevin Lofthus, a standout first baseman, set records with his home run prowess during his time at UNLV. Christine Parris, a two-sport athlete in softball and basketball, made an impact on both fields and continued her career in professional softball.
The 1991 UNLV Softball Team, coached by Shan McDonald, achieved historic success by tying for the most wins in program history and earning a trip to the Women’s College World Series. The class also includes longtime equipment manager Steve Stallworth, who received the Silver Rebel Award for his support of UNLV athletics.
The inductees expressed gratitude for being recognized for their contributions and emphasized the importance of leaving a legacy for future generations of Rebels. The UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame now boasts 141 members, each representing the spirit and excellence of the university’s athletic programs.
