Thursday meeting to discuss progress on Nevada City bridge construction and incentives for courthouse site selection

Construction on the Nevada Street bridge in Nevada City is progressing, with an expected completion date in mid-to-late November. Despite some delays due to weather and ground conditions, the total cost of $7,685,504 remains unchanged. The new bridge will closely resemble the original 1860’s bridge but will meet current standards. The project also includes utility relocations and reconstruction of the parking lot on Nevada Street.

In other news, Wendy Ermshar has resigned from the City’s planning commission, and Anne Shisko is expected to be appointed to the vacancy. Additionally, the location for a new Nevada City Courthouse has been narrowed down to three potential sites, with the Forest Service Office location being recommended as the best site by the Ad Hoc Committee.

The City is considering incentives to encourage the Judicial Council of California to select the Forest Service site for the courthouse, including design and cost estimates for sewer line upgrades and assistance with funding a new storage tank. Other incentives being considered include easements on a nearby trail and upgrades to infrastructure on Coyote Street.

A monthly report on the City’s emergency services activities, including illegal camp cleanups and fire protection efforts, will be reviewed at the upcoming city council meeting on July 25. The council will also receive an annual report on local housing programs, including the Cashin’s Field housing project funded by grants from the Permanent Local Housing Allocation.
