Dozens of Democrats, including prominent figures such as Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have endorsed Kamala Harris for president in the past 72 hours. However, Sanders has not formally endorsed her yet, saying he needs to see more specific plans from Harris on helping working-class Americans before doing so. Sanders emphasized the importance of Harris focusing on the working class in order to win the election. Harris has garnered support from 48 Democratic senators and 175 House members, as well as key figures like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Sanders’ endorsement of Harris will also be dependent on her choice of a running mate. The Vermont senator has a history of demanding specific commitments before offering his support, as he did with President Joe Biden in the past. Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez had pushed Biden to embrace a more progressive agenda in his campaign. A majority of pledged delegates to the Democratic convention have already endorsed Harris, positioning her as the likely nominee for the party’s presidential candidate.
