Google, in collaboration with Storey County, CC Communications, and Rural Innovation Strategies, Inc., has announced a partnership to bring high-speed fiber-to-the-home broadband internet access to the residents and businesses of Virginia City. This initiative, guided by RISI, aims to boost economic development and transform digital access in the region by providing broadband access along a 12-plus mile route to 657 locations.
The project will cover Virginia City, Gold Hill, and establishments adjacent to Nevada State Route 342 between State Route 50 and Virginia City. Construction is set to begin this summer, with the goal of completing the project by November 2025. Customers will be brought online as locations are passed, and Churchill County Communications will also provide complimentary broadband service to government buildings in Virginia City and Gold Hill.
This partnership represents a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in rural areas and spurring technological advancements. With access to high-speed internet, residents and businesses in Virginia City will have the opportunity to engage in online activities, access online education, and participate in the digital economy more efficiently.
