Nevada football predicted to place last in Mountain West conference; no players named to All-MW team

The Nevada football team, coming off consecutive 2-10 seasons, was selected to finish last in the Mountain West Conference preseason poll. Boise State was chosen to win the conference, with UNLV and Fresno State following closely behind. Nevada was one of five schools without a player on the All-MW preseason team, while former Wolf Pack players Tory Horton and Jacob Gardner, now at Colorado State, did make the team. The team is now under the leadership of first-year head coach Jeff Choate, who replaced Ken Wilson. The season kicks off at home on August 24 against SMU.

In terms of individual honors, Boise State players Ashton Jeanty and Ahmed Hassanein were named offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively, with UNLV’s Jackson Woodard sharing the defensive honor. UNLV’s Jacob De Jesus was named the preseason special teams player of the year. Boise State led with seven players on the preseason all-conference team, followed by UNLV with five.

The predicted order of finish for the Mountain West Conference also included Air Force, Colorado State, Wyoming, Utah State, San Diego State, Hawaii, San José State, and New Mexico. Overall, the outlook for the Wolf Pack may be challenging, but with new leadership and a fresh start, the team could surprise this season.
