China brokers unity deal between Hamas and Fatah, Palestinian rivals sign agreement

Palestinian factions have signed a unity agreement in Beijing aimed at maintaining control over Gaza post-Israeli war. The agreement establishes an interim national reconciliation government and emphasizes unity in the face of ongoing Israeli attacks. The move towards reconciliation is seen as a historic turning point as Hamas and Fatah have been bitter rivals since 2006.

The agreement, signed by Hamas, Fatah, and 12 other Palestinian groups, is viewed as a significant step towards ending internal divisions. The unity government would block Israeli efforts to create a collaborative structure against Palestinian interests. The ongoing war in Gaza has been a key factor prompting the factions to set aside their differences and work together.

China, which has been mediating the conflict, hosted the talks and welcomed the signing of the agreement. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of international support for Palestinian reconciliation. China has historically supported the Palestinian cause and a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The signing of the agreement, known as the “Beijing Declaration”, is seen as a step towards ending the conflict and achieving peace in the region. The agreement includes the formation of unified Palestinian leadership and a commitment to hold future elections. The road to national unity is seen as the only way for Palestinians to overcome the injustices they face.
